A Profile of the Former US National Team Player and Current Columbus Crew Head Coach

Gregg Berhalter, born in Englewood, New Jersey in 1973, began his soccer career as a centre-back for the United States National Team. He made his international debut in 1994 and went on to earn 44 caps for his country.

Berhalter's club career spanned 16 years, during which he played for several teams in the United States, England, and Germany. His most notable stint was with the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he won two MLS Cups and was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2000.

After retiring from playing, Berhalter transitioned into coaching. He served as an assistant coach with the US National Team from 2011 to 2018, and in 2018 was appointed head coach of the Columbus Crew. Under his leadership, the Crew won the 2020 MLS Cup.
