Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes came to his side's rescue with two goals in a 4-2 home win over Sheffield United on Saturday. Sheffield United have now lost nine consecutive Premier League away games.
Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Chris Basham was adjudged to have fouled Anthony Martial. However, Sheffield United equalised just six minutes later when Billy Sharp headed home from a corner.
Manchester United regained the lead in the 30th minute when Marcus Rashford finished off a fine team move. But Sheffield United once again hit back, with David McGoldrick equalising in the 36th minute.
The second half was a more cagey affair, with both sides creating chances but failing to find a breakthrough. However, Fernandes struck again in the 75th minute to give Manchester United the lead for the third time.
And the Portugal international sealed the victory in the 85th minute with a fine solo effort. The win moves Manchester United up to fifth in the Premier League table, while Sheffield United remain bottom.
