Gervonta Davis 29-0 and Ryan Garcia 23-1 Both Brought Undefeated Records to the Main Event

LAS VEGAS — In a battle of undefeated superstars in the primes of their careers, Gervonta “Tank” Davis stopped “King” Ryan Garcia with a fierce body shot in round seven on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena. Davis (29-0, 26 KOs) is now the WBA “regular” lightweight champion and the WBA “super” lightweight champion. Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) suffered his first professional defeat. The fight was fought at a fast pace from the opening bell, with both fighters landing clean shots. Davis was the more accurate puncher, and he began to take control of the fight in the middle rounds. In the seventh round, Davis landed a devastating body shot that sent Garcia to the canvas. Garcia beat the count, but he was clearly hurt. Davis then landed a flurry of punches that forced the referee to stop the fight.

Davis was thrilled with his victory.

"I knew I was going to win this fight," Davis said. "I'm the best fighter in the world, and I proved it tonight."

Garcia was disappointed with his performance, but he said he would learn from his mistakes.

"I'm not going to make excuses," Garcia said. "I lost fair and square. I'm going to go back to the gym and work harder than ever before. I'll be back stronger than ever."

The victory was a major statement for Davis, who is now considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He is now expected to face Vasyl Lomachenko in a unification fight later this year.
